Navigating the teenage years can be challenging for both teens and parents. It's a time of significant growth, change, and a natural push for independence, which can sometimes lead to communication breakdowns, misunderstandings, and conflict within the family. This is a structured, 12-week group designed to rebuild and strengthen the lines of communication between teenagers and their parents or guardians in a safe, supportive, and professionally facilitated environment. Our goal is to equip families with practical tools to navigate difficult conversations, understand each other's perspectives, and foster a home environment built on mutual respect and trust. We aim to move families from a cycle of conflict to a pattern of connection. This group is designed for families with teens who are experiencing challenges such as: 1) Frequent arguments over rules, expectations, or responsibilities; 2) A feeling of being "unheard" or misunderstood by one another; 3) Difficulty discussing sensitive topics like friends, school, social media, or future plans; 4) A desire to improve the overall quality of their relationship and daily interactions. This group is intentionally divided into two distinct phases to maximize growth and ensure a safe space for honest skill-building. For the first eight weeks, the group will operate in separate, alternating sessions: one week with teens only, and the next with parents/guardians only. This allows each group to create a non-judgmental space to share unique perspectives, frustrations, and goals without fear of immediate conflict or reaction from the other party, focus on learning foundational communication and boundary-setting skills tailored to their specific role in the family dynamic, and understand common communication patterns and develop empathy for the other's point of view in a guided setting. During the final four weeks, teens and their parents/guardians will come together for combined group sessions to apply the skills learned in real-time conversations and engage in structured dialogues on topics relevant to the group in a supportive environment.
